Quote:Fans for all things “living dead” are once again convening at the Monroeville Mall this weekend.

The Living Dead Weekend kicked off at noon Friday and will continue through Sunday at the Monroeville Mall with zombie related activities planned.

Living Dead Museum owner Kevin Kriess first organized the weekend festival in 2017. The museum, located in Evans City, used to call the Monroeville Mall home from 2007 to 2013.
The mall was the setting for George Romero’s 1978 movie “Dawn of the Dead,” which continues to generate global interest from fans. Many travel to the region to visit the mall for that sole reason.

The weekend-long event boasts encounters with actors, directors and makeup artists that have appeared in zombie movies and television shows. It also features guided tours of places within the mall that were featured in “Dawn of the Dead.”

This year, the mall’s Cinemark movie theater will host a screening of a 3D version of the “Dawn of the Dead” on Saturday.

Tickets start at $20 for a single-day pass. For more information and a full list of events, visit thelivingdeadweekend.com.
