Well, if you're referring to 2012 the movie, there's Africa, but I'd rather be dead than live in that craphole. Otherwise, I'd say get together a decent chunk of money and buy one of the many military bunkers that are for sale nowadays due to the budget cuts. Those cover the most bases of possible situations. You can buy one of the communications bunkers for about 300k with 50 or more acres from uncle sam.

Water is an illusion barrier Zeds may float or sink and shamble along the bottom hell they may even swim who knows they may even jet ski. We can't be sure water will stop them, hell an island in the Caribbean would be great to camp out on but may be a Zed feeding trough.

RE: Bug out suggestions - mr.dark - 03-25-2010

the problem with almost all of the suggestions is everyone is thinking short term. Now if you can plan ahead and think long term, almost every suggestion could/would work with time and effort.Walmart-if you or somebody you know were to be an employee, they may be able to controll the store long enough for backup to arrive.Underground mines/tunnels,abandoned or out of site/out of mind you may be able to fortify the position with mas effect and get the job done.but i do agree farms are nice and an island would be perfect in my opinion because you can set up perimeter defenses, ie Mines, different kinds of Motes-Chemical,Petroleum,ir/motion censers, strategically placed servalence/guard towers or just simply burrow below,im shore if you can manage to build yourself some bunkers, you can make it able to withstand the few zeds that do mange to scurry or float there way over.any idiot that can run a backhoe and lay some block can do that.lol especially since we have a welder in the sector, block with reinforced steel now that would work.lol

Holding down a local point and then moving to a central location once the local point is secure might be more of a reality. For example I live in Wilkes-Barre and the first place that comes to mind for me would be the abandoned Sterling Hotel. It's already fairly secure and it has a good roof for sniping. Once SHTF is over, then move on to the Sector 3 Central Rendezvous.

Trying to recruit in Wilkes-Barre right now. Have two friends I'll talk to tomorrow. Between us we have an SKS, a Taurus .40, and a Kel-Tec P-11 9mm. More weapons are needed I know, but it's a start.

sorry buddy, shes going down from what I hear Sad

Also, my initial idea was the National Guard Armory in Kingston. Yeah, It's in the middle of everywhere, but there are only a couple entrances that you would have to worry about. And TBH you could push (with a vehicle ofc) a connex into the entrance ways and park a deuce behind it. There are large garage bay doors on the building, bars lots of the windows. A full kitchen, a functional maintenance bay ( could get 4 or 5 (i forget) 2.5 ton trucks in with room and tools to work. There are multiple fairly close entrances / exits to highways, the river is RIGHT next to it, excellent rooftop views, HMMWV's, Deuces, Wrecker trucks, trailers, other parked at the facility. Trailer-ed generators outside as well as smaller generators inside not in use (some still in original crates) able to see most entrances from the second floor balcony above the drill floor that wraps the entire area.

It seems unpractical to consider this part as an advantage, but the basement also seems to be quite fortified. There are remnants of the old stables down there, there is also a classroom style room down there that has literature from the cold war era.. (plans to use as a bunker) I will have to check, but I think it may actually be a fallout shelter.. or was?

If not, there are a couple that I know of within 5 min walking distance should they be needed.

Also, within 30 minutes (on foot) there is a warehouse market and multiple other grocery stores that you can just drive a deuce into the front (glass) entrance and load up.

Downside. ... Wilkes-Barre, Kingston and surrounding area would also think this..

It would be a great place to go if you had prior knowledge of an event and were able to move in ahead of time.

not a bad idea, if its previously abandoned.

RE: Bug out suggestions - kiltedguard - 03-26-2011

Not a bad idea even if it's not.

If it's occupied I doubt the tenants will be up for supplying and feeding new survivors. Apart from females even a well armed troupe would likely be turned away.

I hope people will be rational and cooperative but I think charity and rationality will disappear when the guns click to fire.

Day 0, shit just hit the fan, now what?

Get in my car and head immediately to armory to secure M1165 HMMWV, drive to warehouse distribution area, park HMMWV between a couple trailers and load an empty one that is attached to the warehouse. Wait for my two friends that should be enroute by then if not already there. Roll out to BoL Iron with semi and escort vehicle.

Turns out there IS a plow truck within 5 mins from me. Maybe get someone else to clear the roadway up in that as lead vic. HMMWV as trail.

EPIC WIN for PAZRT!
