Mayor Gainey, community leaders address uptick in Pittsburgh-area gun violence

Quote:March 31, 2022 at 6:19 pm EDTBy Talia Kirkland, WPXI-TV
PITTSBURGH — According to recent data, nearly one-third of Pittsburgh’s homicides in 2021 were teenagers.
Channel 11 News spoke with Mayor Ed Gainey and community leaders to address the uptick in gun violence. The mayor shared a simple message:
“If you know something, please say something. We can’t do anything unless we work together to solve these issues.”

On Wednesday evening around 6 p.m., police found 15-year-old Dayvon Vickers shot in broad daylight while riding his bike on North Homewood Avenue.
At the same time across town in Mt. Washington, 23-year-old Micah Stoner was shot and killed on Kingsboro Street.
The day before, on Tuesday, witnesses in Brookline heard 20 shots before police found Devonte White dead in front of a home.
On Thursday, the mayor said it must stop.
“We need the nonprofits, we need the corporations, we need everybody to play a part to say that we want to eliminate violence and create peace in our streets. What we need is a citywide initiative,” said Gainey.
A citywide initiative is something community leaders say they can get behind. On Wednesday, Tim Stevens, the CEO of B-PEP, penned a letter urging city leaders and the mayor to act.
The letter read in part, “Find the funds to employ our young people and our young adults to physically clean up our neighborhoods.”
“There are millions of dollars in Pittsburgh in infrastructure,” said Rashad Byrdsong of the Community Empowerment Association.
Byrdsong agreed with Stevens and added, “We need to have access to those resources so we can employ a lot of these young people as contractors, entrepreneurs; they need access just like we see in other communities.”
Brydsong also would like issues that lead to violence addressed, such as substance abuse, homelessness and mental health.
“It’s been an emergency, and we have to address (gun violence) the same (as) we did COVID,” said Byrdsong.
The mayor did not go into detail about the proposed solutions, but did confirm that he is ready to continue the work.
“There’s no one-size-fits-all; it’s happening everywhere,” said Gainey.
The Community Empowerment Association is hosting a public meeting from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. this Saturday, April 2, to address the violence and hear from residents.

HOPE THEY'RE NOT EXPECTING MAYOR AL SHARPTON JR. TO ACTUALLY STOP, OR EVEN SLOW DOWN THESE OPERTOR-LESS VIOLENT GUNS!!!
Pittsburgh community leaders get dumber, say disembodied violence is out of control, call for an end

By Amy Hudak, WPXI-TVApril 08, 2022 at 11:14 pm EDT

Quote:PITTSBURGH — Our community leaders say the violence on our streets and in our schools is out of control, and it’s going to take a community effort to create solutions.
The pews were full of people at Potter’s House Ministries in Mount Oliver. The Rev. Eileen Smith with the South Pittsburgh Coalition for Peace says this prayer vigil was a chance for people to come together as one and heal.
“People are hurting, people are seeing too much, witnessing too much,” Smith told Channel 11.
Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert was also at the vigil and said we need community action in addition to talking.
“The last couple weeks especially, it’s been pretty traumatic in the city with the level of violence,” Schubert said.
There have been 19 homicides in the city this year.  That number doesn’t account for all of the neighboring towns and boroughs around Pittsburgh.
As families were praying and mourning, Allegheny County Police investigated a man shot multiple times in an apartment along Broadway Avenue in Stowe Township.  Detectives brought out brown bags of evidence, including the gun used in the shooting. Three men - one believed to be the shooter - were detained.
Pittsburgh’s police chief says a place to start is getting guns out of kids’ hands. For parents, that means locking them up and not leaving them in places like cars.
“We have to do everything to stop that, to keep guns from getting into hands, but it’s even bigger than that,” Schubert adds.  “Everyone has to work together to get people to the point they’re not resorting to violence.”
Our leaders say it’s also about holding perpetrators accountable and mentoring those who could go down a different path to stop them before they do.
“It’s all about unity and doing this together as a village for our children for our families,” Smith adds.

Bad violence, Bad, bad, BAD!!!  Shame on you for being so bad!!!  We're gonna put you in timeout violence, for being so bad!  Pittsburgh community "leaders?!"  Boy is Pittsburgh in trouble!!!  This is like the so-called War on Terror - you don't declare war on a tactic - you declare war on the people who caused it.  These so-called "leaders" better call for tougher penalties & tougher sentencing of criminals, if they wanna end violence!!!!  Less midnight bassetball & more hard time - maybe on chain gangs cleaning up da' community might help!

Three more shootings: how Pittsburgh leaders are trying to end gun violence

By Kayla CourvellApril 24, 2022 at 11:08 pm EDT

Quote:PITTSBURGH — Another violent weekend in Pittsburgh, with police responding to multiple shooting calls throughout the area in just a matter of hours.
One week after the mass shooting on Easter Sunday, city leaders are calling for a change.

“What this incident brought to light was a problem,” said Isaac Faldey, president of Community Alliance of Spring Garden. “That was a big problem, and it’s not just what the police need to solve, it’s what the community can do.”

Faldey led a round-table discussion on how to respond to Easter Sunday’s mass shooting.

“We want to try to get something going for the entire North Side, even if it’s just a start,” Faldey said.

Just hours beforehand, police around the Pittsburgh area were once again busy, responding to calls of violence.

Around 10:30 Saturday night, a man was found on Wylie Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Hill District with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

At 2 a.m. Sunday, emergency crews were notified of a female on St Clair Avenue in Clairton who was shot in the stomach. The woman was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Around the same time, another shooting. This time in Duquesne, where a man was taken to the hospital after being shot in the shoulder.

Faldey said it’s not just the job of police to stop these violent acts, but everyone’s.

“We as a community are going to try to help the city move on from that,” he said.

Faldey said that right now, the group is focused on the youth and finding ways to target that age group to start curbing the violence they’re currently seeing.

"Faldey said it’s not just the job of police to stop these violent acts, but everyone’s."  I don't mind shooting back at badguys, but I bet you numbnuts would bitch about that, too!.  But if you'd start executing drug dealers & users, I'll bet it would bring the inner-city numbnuttery to a screeching halt right quick.  That & bring the Germans back to Spring Garden & Homewood!!  Just more hand-wringing & hoplophobery bullshit in the meantime!!!

Florida sheriff says homeowners are 'more than welcome' to shoot intruders

By Adam Sabes | Fox News

Police arrested Brandon J. Harris, 32, who was arrested after allegedly breaking into several homes in Pace, Florida, and was stopped by a homeowner who fired multiple gunshots at him, according to the Pensacola Daily News.
Calls of the break-ins began to come into the sheriff's office at around 4:30 p.m., according to police. Harris is being charged with attempted burglary with assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, attempted larceny, and several other charges.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said in a press conference on Thursday that one of the homeowners fired gunshots at Harris, and said that he was arrested after being cornered in a house that he allegedly broke into.
"Probably 20 deputies get there, the dogs are out, and he's jumping fences and breaking into houses as he goes," Johnson said. "One of the homeowners, he was breaking into their house, and they shot at him. So he continues to run, we finally corner him in a house that he broke into on Tom Sawyer and we cornered him in a bedroom."
Johnson also encouraged other residents to follow in the homeowner's footsteps and take gun safety classes, adding that they are "more than welcome" to shoot anyone who is breaking in to their house.

"I guess they think they did something wrong, which they did not. If someone's breaking into your house, you're more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County. We prefer that you do, actually. So, whoever that was, you're not in trouble, come see us. We have a gun safety class we put on every other Saturday," Johnson said.
The sheriff added that residents who take the course will shoot a gun "a lot better," and maybe save taxpayers some money.
"If you take that, you'll shoot a lot better, and hopefully you'll save the taxpayers money," Johnson said.

Johnson also described Harris as a "frequent flyer," noting that he has been arrested 17 times before.
"You hear me talk about frequent flyers all the time. Our first interaction with this individual came when he was 13 years old. Since then, he's had like 17 arrests," Johnson said. "We sent him to prison for six and a half years for home invasion, and he just can't seem to get the picture of crime does not pay."
Hope these dipshiites were praying for better leaders & tougher judges!!!

‘Not acceptable’: Interfaith event held to stand against violence in Pittsburgh

Quote:By Mike Holden, WPXI-TVMay 19, 2022 at 6:26 pm EDT
PITTSBURGH — Chairman and CEO of BPEP Tim Stevens says we have reached a breaking point when it comes to violence and hatred plaguing the streets of Pittsburgh and the country.
“It’s bad, it’s sad, and we must be mad enough to do something about it,” Stevens said.(Pack some heat & shoot back, dumbass!!!)
Thursday night, an interfaith event was held at the First United Methodist Church in Shadyside.
It was an open invitation from multiple community groups to come together as one and condemn the violence.
It started at 6 p.m., and everyone was welcome to pray and express their concerns.
It all happened in response to the racially motivated Tops Market mass shooting in Buffalo where 10 people were killed and three others were injured, as well as the Easter Sunday mass shooting at an Airbnb on Pittsburgh’s North Side that killed two teens and injured several more.
“Black on black violence is not acceptable. White on black violence is not acceptable. Violence of Jewish people is not acceptable. Violence on gays is not acceptable,” said Stevens.
Shawn A. Brokos, director of community security for Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, says we are seeing an alarming spike in hate crimes against Jewish, black, and brown and marginalized communities with growth year over year.
She says we must work with police and mental health professionals to bring change.
“Let’s just focus on preparedness. Let’s focus on being vigilant. Let’s continue to work together,” said Brokos.
Organizers lit candles and remembered all of the victims lost in recent shootings at the interfaith event.
BPEP says the event included an action approach where they drafted up a document and create a collective statement condemning violence.
Violence of Jewish people is not acceptable - are Jewish gangs now a big problem in Pittsburgh?!  Oy vey - haven't heard of this until now!!!

These dodos call themselves clergy?!  Clearly, they've never read this!!! (one of the co-authors IS a Pittsburgh clergyman!)

A Pittsburgh Public information officer told Channel 11 that the situation began after a pizza delivery driver was robbed. SWAT responded to a house on the 2100 block of Bedford Avenue and Memory Lane where the robbery suspect was believed to be located.
Witnesses told Channel 11 that they saw a man in the area carrying a long gun before the SWAT situation began. Authorities said that when they entered the residence they found a long gun but did not find the suspect.
The call for the incident was made at 6:18 p.m.
Police say they do not believe there is any immediate danger.

They also believe kneeling with Burn, Loot, Murder, Inc. is a good idea!  In other words, lock 'n' load & batten down the hatches - prepare to repel all boarders!
