Anyone have any thoughts on flares or other signalling devices? I was looking at this site and it looks like good stuff:

really like the 12g flare....wish they were cheaper price

can you fire 12ga shotgun shells out of a 12ga flare pistol? (talking possibility not practicality)

There was a company that was making metal sleeves for allowing just that. The ATF ended up registering the metal sleeve as a firearm. Tests were done, the plastic ones had a habit of randomly blowing up. Sometimes the first shot, sometimes it would make it until the forth or fifth in. So, yes, as a possibility it works, but it's far from safe and their are cheaper ways of making throw away shotguns.
