Helicopters
I was just thinking it might be a good idea to get some flying lessons. I would love to learn to fly a helicopter and it might be very useful when SHTF. Does anyone know how or where I could get lessons? I live in northwestern PA.

RE: Helicopters
Looking up online would be your best bet. Most puddle jumper airstrips have people to get your pilots license for fixed wing aircraft, but not helicopters.

RE: Helicopters
I have a friend that has his heli license. I'll have to ask him about it. He tells me it is much more difficult to fly a heli than a fixed wing plane. You have both hands and feet in play when you are airborne.

RE: Helicopters
A former student of mine flies A-10s for the Pa Air National Guard... He told me that if your wings are moving faster than your airframe...You are in a crash.

RE: Helicopters
flying has always been something I'd eventually want to take up, but I'm very afraid of heights and hitting any sort of turbulence would make me s*it my pants. not to mention I'm a big guy and I don't fit well into tiny spots.

RE: Helicopters
Knowing how to fly could be a definite plus, it'd save running amongst the craziness for a while.
My best friend is finishing up his training to fly an Apache in the Army. He ships out to Afghanistan in June. He say's the weapons systems are just amazing....so forget the bug out bike I posted pictures of, I now want a Bug Out Apache.

RE: Helicopters
Screw an Apache, I want an Osprey (or an AC-130).

RE: Helicopters
Helicopters only fly cause you believe they do, the moment you doubt their ability to beat the air into submission they drop like rocks. I won't get into one again unless the Zed hoard has me surrounded it is just not gonna happen.
